    It's when Jacob runs away with E's car to try to find someone to imprint on in Seattle - then when he doesn't ( because it was all desperation anyways) he has to resign himself to what is going to happen soon with Bella and the 'monster spawn'. He thinks the torture is similar to what Leah is going through.

    The 'magic' he's talking about is imprinting - ie if he imprints with someone then all the Bella pain will go away....
